How long have you been working for Get Bats Out?
Where are you based, and what areas do you serve?
I’m based in the Midwest and serve Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Western Pennsylvania, and a little of Kentucky.
Tell us your favorite on-the-job bat removal story.
I don’t know if I can think of a specific favorite story. On the top of my list would be when a job goes well and I’m able to bring relief to a family under stress from something beyond their control. It feels good to finish up a job with homeowners and leave them worry-free.
What are your favorite things to do where you live?
Campfire in the backyard surrounded with friends. Enjoying the animals and nature all around our home.
What is your first memory at Get Bats Out?
When I showed up to be trained, it was on a huge log cabin. I remember at one point I was way up in the air on a forty-foot ladder thinking I want to make sure I’m secure. Then realizing that I had to let go with at least one hand if I wanted to get any work done up there. It took a little bit to get past that.
What is your favorite thing about your job?
I like having a job where I have to use my mind. Every job is different from the others. I have to solve a mystery every time. I have to investigate each structure and put all the clues together to figure out exactly what is happening, and then come up with a strategy to take care of it.
Before working for Get Bats Out, what was the most unusual job you’ve ever had?
Being Batman really tops the list. After that (as a far, far second) would be a window cleaner. As a kid, it never crossed my mind that I would grow up to do either of those things.
What is your favorite local restaurant?
My wife and I really enjoy regularly going to a local sushi place. We’ve kinda made it into a date night.
Where would you go on a dream vacation?
It used to be a trip to Maine during the Maine Lobster Festival for our anniversary. But I’ve done that now. So, now it’s to go camping in Maine with my motorcycle during the Lobster Festival for our anniversary. Plan to do that this year.
I’m a very straightforward guy. If you know me, you really know me. Not much I keep hidden about myself.
You’re hosting a dinner party—what are you making for dinner?
Something grilled. My specialty is grilled anything. My wife says I could grill a shoe and it would taste great. She calls me a Grill Master.
What is your personal motto?
Let your reasonableness be known to all.
What are the top three highlights of your life?
Marrying my wife
Spending twenty-one years and the rest of my life with her
Finally realizing that I’m Batman
What is your biggest fear?
I’ve always said I have a fear of heights. Not a phobic fear, but still a fear. Once I stop fearing that, I think I’m in trouble.
What is your favorite movie?
The Foundation series by Isaac Asimov
